Okay, I know it’s kind of late, but here’s my con report about Anime Expo 2011 and MIKUNOPOLIS.
Before the concert, I wanted Miku and friends to receive a welcome rivaling that of her Japanese concerts, so for the weeks before the convention, I worked on a callbook, which would teach people how to cheer her during her songs just like how the Japanese fans do it, with some adlibs on my part as well. I got the help of mandi and kouotsu in making this book, and included information on all 39 songs from the 39’s Giving Day concert. I had wanted to distribute this before the live concert, but ended up finishing it only days before the event. I posted a link to the PDF I made on the Anime Expo forums, but I’m not sure if that useful to anyone. You can still access it from my Google Sites page:
On Day 0 of Anime Expo, I ran over to Office Depot and ordered a print run of 100 copies. Print run cost: around $135 (after a coupon) Being able to hand these out at Anime Expo: Priceless
The books ended up looking like this:
I passed out around 90 copies of the book at the convention, but unfortunately, most of those copies were passed out during and after the concert as essentially souvenirs. -_-;
As for the concert… it was extremely enjoyable!
The first thing I noticed was that the projection display was ridiculously sharp; I get the same feeling when looking at one of Apple’s Retina Displays…
The line to get into the Nokia Theater was a bit slow, so I didn’t make it into the theater until after the DANCEROID performance.
I was originally supposed to sit in row V, but my roommate said that I had a lot more fervor than him and that I should swap places with him. Thus, I ended up in row F. My roommate’s so awesome… ;_;
So after the intro of Project Diva desu., I stood up immediately with glowsticks in hand upon hearing the beginning hi-hats to World is Mine… And then I realized I was the only person standing in my section, although the back section had stood up… Oh well, I have to help lead everyone, especially my friends sitting somewhere behind me, so I figure I’d just go all out and make up for the lost cheering from the rest of the people around me.
And before I knew it, the concert was finished, as was my stamina!
Clover Club, World’s End Dance Hall and Finder caught me by surprise, since they weren’t in the 39’s Giving Day concert, so I kind of made do with the movements. Clover Club’s outfit is just way too cute >< and I couldn't understand a single word in World's End Dance Hall ><;
I also thought the last song would be Melt instead of Hajimete no Oto and am kinda bummed out there was no Melt. I kind of wanted to sing along with it, too... I also wished they played The secret garden as well as Innocence...
Right after The Disappearance of Miku Hatsune, I prepped my pink glowsticks only to find out that Len and Rin were coming on stage >< So I hurriedly reached for my yellow ones... By the way, I had prepped green sticks for Miku, yellow ones for Rin/Len and pink ones for Luka. However, for the famous songs I also used a UO-replacement super-bright LED flashlight w/ traffic wand (LD-20). Unfortunately, as I noticed during the Nico rebroadcast, this light no longer looked orange on camera but looked bright red, reflecting quite prominently on the screen due to the sloped seating in the Nokia Theater (compared to the flat floor in ZEPP TOKYO for 39's Giving Day) >< Sorry everyone for casting red streaks everywhere ><
As for the other stuff I did at Anime Expo, I dashed to the MIKUNOPOLIS booth on Day 1 to buy an official pamphlet, a Hachune plushie as well as a Cheer Miku, which I gave to my roommate for his birthday. On Day 3, I managed to make it to the Crypton Future Media autograph session, and got my Hatsune Miku (the original software) signed by CEO Itoh and Producer Sasaki. I also got my Memories CD signed by Kobayashi Onyx. Here's a summary of what I managed to get at AX (well, the glowsticks I brought to AX, as well as the items I wanted to get signed):
Currently I guess I’m still recovering from the con, and if this cough would go away and if I can get all this “normal” work done, maybe I can actually get somewhere with the full version of psylumik…
